The first thing I did was tell the class that my job was being a mother. I said that all mothers do their jobs differently but I am going to share with you how I do my job. I wrote the word NURTURE on the board and asked them what they thought it meant. We discussed how nurture means to provide everything someone or something would need to grow. I talked about how I strive to nurture the children's body, mind, and heart. I then started pulling props out of a bag and they had to guess what it would nurture. The books would help the mind, the cookies I brought would nourish their bodies (in theory) and the words we speak to each other would nurture their hearts. We talked about how mothers help children become independant by teaching them how to cook, how to clean, how to be polite, etc. so that one day when those children leave home they will be able to take care of themselves. Because if they don't learn it at home, where will they learn it?
I also talked about the formative years and how toddlers brains are like sponges so it is a good idea to teach them all we can. That is when my guest helper (Miss Norah) came up and recited her ABC's in front of the whole class! Then she told them her phone number too! I passed the cookies around and they asked questions...I asked Kimball later if he enjoyed me coming in...he loved it....we hugged....he said he was glad I didn't bring in a diaper. That would have been embarassing.
That's very sweet, Som. What a blessing it is that we are able to stay home and spend that quality nurturing time with our children. I'm glad Kimball liked your presentation too.
